A wide receiver in the United States Football League was hit so hard on the field during a game on Sunday that his teeth cracked inside his mouth, leading him to spit it out on the side-lines.

When Isiah Hennie received a pass and turned up the side-lines searching for a huge play in the third quarter of the Pittsburgh Maulers’ game against the Philadelphia Stars in Alabama, the dentist’s worst dread came true.

However, after roughly 10 yards, Stars defensive back Cody Brown struck him in the chin with his helmet, knocking the Maulers wide out to the ground.

The 25-year-old former Sacramento State receiver is now a member of the Pittsburgh Maulers. With the WR mic’d up for the encounter with the Philadelphia Stars on June 12, spectators felt the full force of the huge blow.

Hennie still aspires to play in the NFL, and he attended the Hub Camp event earlier this year. The three-time All-Big Sky performer is noted for his ability to cut and make big plays.

On Sunday night, both were on display as he ripped past the Star’s defence on a lung-bursting run. Cody Brown, on the other hand, put a stop to his progress in spectacular fashion. The former Arkansas safety, who weighed 201 pounds, crashed into Hennie, leading with his shoulder and sending him cartwheeling to the ground. Worse was to come for the quick receiver, who ran to the sideline to spit out his tooth.

The crash was brutal — so brutal, in fact, that cameras caught Hennie spitting out what seemed to be many teeth from his mouth seconds afterwards. “I lost [a tooth], but it was only a wisdom tooth,” Hennie can be heard telling employees. “It was all the way in the back, and it was already chipping.”

The Maulers offence struggled on the day, as the Stars forced four turnovers on route to a thrilling 17-16 victory. The Philadelphia Eagles are now the No. 2 seed in the inaugural USFL playoffs. They’ll face the Generals, who concluded the regular season with an amazing 8-1 record.

The Maulers, who are now in last place in the North division with a record of 1-8, had a very different story. On June 19, they will play the Michigan Panthers in the regular-season finale.
