Many social media stars and YouTubers have already been exposed for using false personalities while being filmed. Even while audiences are drawn to unusual and diverse characters, they are never warmly received when they come off as fake.
Speed continued to the Round of 16 knockout games against Portugal and Switzerland. In a widely shared YouTube video, a man who appeared to be a member of Watkins’ production team approaches him and tells him that he needed to act as though he was unaware that Ronaldo was on the bench five minutes before the game. It took Speed a little while to understand that his microphone was on.
On the World Cup final day, Speed performed a further controversial “act.” He showed up for the game wearing a Portugal jersey, but later took it off to reveal a France jersey. When he unveiled an Argentina jersey underneath his France jersey, the onlookers’ responses were bizarre. Fans have started to think that Speed is just putting on a show for the camera and that everything he does is pre-written on social media.
Speed participated in the charity match between the YouTube All Stars and the Sidemen back in September 2022. The crowd in the stands asked that Speed be replaced after he came off the bench to open the game. With a crushing tackle on KSI to begin the game, Darren celebrated it like a goal. Late in the game, he scored an offside goal and celebrated it with Cristiano Ronaldo’s trademark way of celebration known as the “Siiiuuuuu” celebration.
Ronaldo has been pursued by Darren to meet him several times. In Cristiano’s absence, he attended the final Manchester United game before the World Cup break and his video went viral of him being upset as the legendary player was benched.
Speed travelled to Qatar to watch the Portuguese perform life and possibly to meet him. Although he saw his hero perform live, he was unable to meet him.
