As the teams were competing for fourth place, Romania had a commanding lead in the contest and was about to seal the title with a 10-2 triumph. Bulgarian players had previously received a fighting penalty and two game misconducts. After the third quarter, things started to become more violent.
Players from Bulgaria and Romania became entangled close to a net, and shortly as the final horn sounded, chaos ensued. Players got up from their benches and got into a brawl. The goalie from Romania sprinted down the ice to assist her teammates.

Players can be seen flinging fists everywhere as the benches are cleared. Although the referee tries to restore order, the Romanian goalie enters the scene a little late and ends up striking a Bulgarian who is on top of her colleague. According to the source mentioned above, 19 players received fines, and Romania was also given a 20-minute suspension for abusing officials.

From 3 to 9 April, the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) competition took place. Hong Kong, Ukraine, Lithuania, and Estonia were added to the group along with Romania and Bulgaria. Bulgaria came in fifth and Romania fourth in the standings. Hong Kong won the competition.
