It was possible to see a man trying to punch another man who was seated behind him in the stands while wearing an old England shirt. Former New Zealand cricketer and commentator Simon Doull was overheard on Sky Sports remarking, “Bit of biffo on the Western Terrace there.”
One person on social media responded to the events in the stands by writing: “No one witnessing or worrying about Crawley’s wicket since they were watching a brawl in the stands instead. The Western Terrace is blessed.”
Another person said: “The easy solution is to avoid purchasing a ticket for the Western Terrace if you don’t enjoy this kind of thing.”
Ahead of the last day of play, England is still 113 runs short of defeating New Zealand 3-0 in the series. England defeated New Zealand at Trent Bridge and Lord’s under the leadership of new captain Ben Stokes.
After Jonny Bairstow scored an incredible 162 runs for the hosts, they ended day three of the third test with New Zealand on 168-5 and the visitors ahead by just 137 runs.
To give New Zealand the upper hand once again, Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell put up a partnership that was worth more than 100. However, Matt Potts and Jack Leach swiftly cut off the tail to set England’s winning goal at 296.
Although Ollie Pope and Joe Root later led them to 183-2 at the end of the play, Alex Lees and Zack Crawley had fallen quite early on.
