“The forward is likely to undergo surgery,” the source stated, noting that Varga is in “stable” condition and will remain in the hospital overnight.

Varga lay motionless in the penalty area, seemingly unconscious, after a collision while attempting to score.
His teammates quickly summoned medical assistance and positioned him on his side until the medical team arrived.
He received on-field treatment before being carried off on a stretcher to applause from the crowd, and was then transported to the hospital in Stuttgart for further examination and care.

What Exactly Happened?
For those unaware, Barnabas Varga collapsed on the pitch in Stuttgart after chasing a long cross into the area, colliding with Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn late in the second half.
Hungary winger Roland Sallai dedicated Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Scotland at Euro 2024 to Barnabas Varga, who was stretchered off and hospitalized after a severe collision that will sideline him for the remainder of the tournament.
After a long delay, medics took the 29-year-old off the pitch, covering the stretcher with sheets, in scenes reminiscent of Christian Eriksen’s collapse during Denmark’s Euro 2020 match against Finland.

Captain Szoboszlai was seen in Tears
Hungary captain Dominik Szoboszlai was seen in tears consoling his injured teammate. “It was terrible to see Barnabas like that,” said Sallai.
“Fortunately, he is in a much better condition and will likely need minor surgery. We are hopeful for his quick return. We fought for him in the remaining minutes and dedicate the win to him.”
What Did Coach Rossi Say?
Coach Marco Rossi confirmed Varga suffered a facial fracture. “It was a confusing situation. From what I heard, Barny appeared unconscious, causing significant concern.”
The Hungarian Football Federation announced on X that Varga’s condition is stable and he is in a Stuttgart hospital. They promised to provide updates on his status.
German broadcaster also reported that Varga was conscious and speaking upon arrival at the hospital.
Kevin Csoboth secured the winning goal in the 10th minute of stoppage time in the Group A game, keeping Hungary’s hopes of reaching the last 16 alive.
