Arthur had died last year in the hallway of a home in Cranmore Road, Shirley in the West Midlands, after suffering from catastrophic head injuries after being tortured by his father and stepmother. Arthur was held captive by the two hoodlums as what was called punishment for him for a magnitude of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hughes was meanwhile found guilty of child cruelty counts 2 (standing in isolation) and 3 (assaults) with more than 200 voice messages of Arthur recorded by Tustin and sent to Hughes being played during the case. Arthur was heard crying for his grandmother and uncle saying repeatedly ‘no-one loves me’ and ‘no-one is going to feed me’ with Hughes even seen barking orders to him and asking him to stand still in some of the notes.

CCTV footage was also played to show the inhumane treatment meted out to the boy.
