The Mumbai Indians lost their Indian Premier League 2024 season opener against the Gujarat Titans by 6 runs on March 24 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Gujarat Titans were limited to 168 for 6 in 20 overs by Jasprit Bumrah’s two outstanding spells of bowling, but MI lost momentum following the dismissal of Rohit Sharma and finished on 162 for 9 in 20 overs. Camera captured Hardik approached Rohit after the game and gave him a backward embrace. However, the former captain quickly broke free from the hug and engaged in a lively conversation with gestures while Hardik listened.
With Hardik Pandya leading the Mumbai Indians, the team played their first match of the IPL season. As anticipated, the shift in the team’s dynamic has raised rumours of a developing division within the senior squad.
In between overs, the three were huddled together and Bumrah was attempting to convince Hardik of his point through an animated chat.
The moment former captain Rohit Sharma entered the chat, Pandya left, and Rohit made a gesture suggesting that Hardik might not be paying attention to what he had to say. Jasprit Bumrah appeared to concur with Rohit’s opinions, as the former skipper poked fingers behind Hardik Pandya’s back.
Although the topic of the talk among the three is unclear, the intense exchange revealed the supposed internal conflict that has been growing within the MI camp ever since Hardik Pandya was named captain of the team.
Pandya is receiving trolling from online users due to his discourteous behaviour towards the former captain. Since Pandya took over as captain in place of Rohit, it is abundantly obvious that things are not well in the MI dressing room.
Pandya was jeered by the crowd when Ravi Shastri introduced the captains during the toss. They continued to make fun of him when he started talking, even after he had won the toss.
