Gerard Pique, a former professional football player and defender for Barcelona, is back in the news after a video of him not letting his former teammate Frenkie de Jong sit next to his girlfriend Clara Chia Marti at a game last season went viral online.
In the video, which has been shared on social media for the past 24 hours, de Jong can be seen asking Gerard Pique to move so that he and his girlfriend can sit together. But Pique refused to move, so de Jong and his girlfriend had to find a different place to sit.
Even though the event happened last year, football fans and social media users are still talking about it. Many of them are upset with Gerard Pique’s actions. Some people have even said that de Jong should have gone to Manchester United, which wanted to sign him last summer.

De Jong has been in good shape for Barcelona this season. He has played 32 times for the Spanish giants in all competitions. And has been a key part of his team’s rise to the top of LaLiga, where they are currently nine points ahead of Real Madrid.
Man United’s Twitter account, UtdFaithfuls, got involved when they joked that De Jong should move to Old Trafford in the summer. Adding that United wouldn’t treat him badly like they did Pique, who played for Old Trafford from 2004 to 2008.
Gerard Pique has been in news for other reasons
Even though Pique has caused a lot of trouble, de Jong has kept his mind on football. He hasn’t let the situation affect how he plays on the field.
This is not the first time in recent months that Gerard Pique has been in the news. Just a few days ago, he and his new girlfriend were asked to leave a restaurant in Barcelona because the owner was said to be a Shakira fan. After 11 years together, Pique and Shakira, a Colombian singer and songwriter, said they were breaking up in June 2022.

Gerard Pique played his last game against Almeria
Since then, Gerard Pique has stopped playing professional football. He will confirm his decision at the end of 2022. In November, he played his last game for his hometown team against Almeria.
Fans have had different reactions to the video of Gerard Pique and de Jong. Some find it funny, while others are upset with Pique’s behaviour. Even though the incident is getting a lot of attention, de Jong is still focused on football and his commitment to Barcelona.
