Following Gavi’s recent injury while playing for Spain, Barcelona has accused Fuente of starting the youngster despite being burned out.
Luis de la Fuente speaks out
Following the ongoing burnout claims, Spanish manager Luis de la Fuente, went out to claim that Gavi was perfectly fine prior to the start of the game. He further suggest that the injury had nothing to do with suffering a burn out. Notably, Gavi has appeared in 15 matches for Barcelona so far in the current season, starting 13 of those games. However, the Spanish manager claimed that the injury was a misfortune and had nothing to do with Gavi being fatigued.
De La Fuente stated after the game:
It is a very difficult and very hard moment, for Gavi and Barça, but also for the national team and for me. We are destroyed but football has these things, this is the ugly part and it is something uncontrollable. It seemed that we had lost.
The blow was nothing. It was a bad gesture. It was due to control. He stepped wrong and his knee went. This can happen in any situation. It was an accident, a misfortune. He was perfect to play. He was fresh and phenomenal. He had just not played the weekend and had no problem. With another player, we would be regretting it just as much.”
Gavi suffers injury blow
The incident took place in the recent Spain vs Georgia match around the 26th minute mark. As the match went on, Gavi clutched his knee and sat down before breaking down in tears as Spain’s medical team officials came on to help him leave the pitch. As of now, neither his club nor the Spanish national team have provided any official assessments of his injury. However, reports indicate that the youngster most likely suffered a tear in his anterior cruciate ligament. If this is true, Gavi could miss out on the rest of the entire season.
Pedri and Frenkie de Jong return softens Gavi injury blow for Barcelona
While Gavi’s injury comes as a huge blow for Barcelona, the Catalans have an air of relief following the return of two notable first-team players, Pedri and Frenkie de Jong. While Pedri returned to their matchday squad against Real Sociedad earlier this month, Frenkie is set to return ahead of Barca’s match against Rayo Vallecano this coming Saturday.
