In the dormitory of a private polytechnic college in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, fights started between students and non-Tamil mess staff. The incident is currently under control, and the administration has opened an internal investigation.

At RVS Educational Institution in Coimbatore, close to Sulur, the tragedy happened last night. Local students and temporary staff from other states working at the mess got into a fight. On social media, a video of the altercation has gained a lot of attention. With sticks and rods in their hands, hundreds of students are seen running towards one end of the dorm mess.

What caused the brawl?

The students reportedly demanded more non-vegetarian food, but the mess workers, who were mainly temporary employees from neighbouring states, refused. This sparked a verbal argument that swiftly descended into violence. Some of the kids who were there to witness the altercation recorded the incident on film.

The event was reported to the police, who responded quickly and brought the situation under control. The event is being investigated by the college administration, who have promised to take harsh measures against those found to be at fault.

As a result of consuming food from a dormitory mess in Mangaluru, 137 students were hospitalised.

On Feb 7, hundreds of students from a private nursing and paramedical college in Mangaluru’s Shakthinagar neighbourhood were admitted to several hospitals in the city. Up to 137 kids reported experiencing food sickness, purportedly as a result of eating at the mess hall.

N Shashi Kumar, the commissioner of the Mangaluru Police, said investigators are looking for the precise reason behind food poisoning. The students, he said, had been brought to City Hospital after complaining of food sickness, stomachaches, loose movements, and vomiting.

According to information cited by TOI, some of the students were in bad condition. While there were 52 students admitted to the AJ Hospital, 42 to the Fr. Muller Hospital, 18, to the KMC, 14, to the Unity Hospital, 8, to the City Hospital, and 3 to the Mangala Hospital.
