Returning to the game, Australia started their batting on Day 4 at 123/4, leading by 296 runs. Umesh Yadav’s coveted scalp of Marnus Labuschagne (41) as a result of getting him caught at first slip gave Indian seamers a strong start to the day.

After his dismissal, India missed the chance to dismiss Australia with a lead of 350 runs, as Cameron Green (25) and Alex Carey contributed 43 runs for the sixth wicket to push the lead above 350. When Green failed to pad a delivery down the leg side that grazed his gloves and slammed into his stumps, he was strangely dismissed in the first session.

Mitchell Starc also contributed to the agony for India with his brilliant knock of 41 (57) and 93 runs added for the seventh wicket with Alex Carey (66*). The two increased Australia’s lead above 400, and in the second inning, Australia declared the inning to be 270/8.

As a response, Indian openers Rohit Sharma (43) and Shubman Gill (18) once again got off to a strong start, combining for 41 runs off of 43 pitches. However, Cameron Green’s amazing catch allowed Green to cheaply dismiss Gill. After scoring 50 runs together for the fourth wicket with Cheteshwar Pujara, Sharma also lost his wicket, falling LBW to Nathan Lyon.
