Earlier, a video surfaced on X/Twitter, featuring a player running off the field to the locker room’s side while her hand was on the head.
The abrupt whistle, which was clearly an indication of the match being paused came as a surprise to the fans who were clearly enjoying the 53-55 match between Mystics vs Mercury on Sunday.
As aforesaid, on Sunday a match between Washington Mystics vs Phoenix Mercury was being held at the Care Fist Arena in Washington. Mercury were in the lead with 55-53 in the third quarter of the match, when fans suddenly heard a whistle, an indication of the match being halted.
And instantly what fans witnessed was Mercury’s small forward Kahleah Copper running towards the locker room as her hands were trying to cover her head.
The live broadcast only featured her running in the direction of the locker room with a purpose, however, a quick slow motion of the scene, revealed her wig on her head had been removed after being pulled off Jade Melbourne.

The video of the incident has taken over the social media platforms, especially X/Twitter, Instagram, and Reddit, as fans are clearly mocking and roasting the WNBA for stopping the game mid-way and for having a fan ejected for mocking Copper after her wig fell off in the third quarter.

Mic’d up referees and officials could be overheard discussing a fan who made fun of Mercury’s Copper for her wig falling off. Members of Mercury heard the fan shout during the incident and pointed them out so that officials could remove them from the stadium.
What Did the Viral Video Feature?
The viral video, which is a replay of the incident, clearly shows Kahleah Copper’s wig coming off her head and falling onto the ground, and a quick whistle by the referee.
The commentator can be heard saying that “Kahleah Copper has a bit of her wig come off there and she goes right into the locker-room wow, what a wow moment that was” as the camera focuses her running towards the locker room while putting her hand onto the head.
For the unsure, the 30-year-old WNBA player had her wig pulled off accidentally by Jade Melbourne. Though, this wig mishap did halt the game for a while, however, Phoenix Mercury won the game against Washington Mystics by 82-77.
As per reports, Cooper played for at least 26 minutes before the wig mishap and reportedly scored 6 points, with grabbing 3 rebounds and dishing out 3 assists.

Basketball fans surely aren’t liking the fact that the game was delayed in the middle as one fan took to X and penned, “Well this clearly illustrates the need for the WNBA toupee them more money.”
Another one added, “A WNBA game was halted after a player’s wig fell off, and shortly thereafter a fan was ejected for making fun of the incident. This league is a joke.”
