Signing a deal with AEW, one which was brought into fruition after discussions stretching a year and a half, CM Punk was on show today during the AEW Rampage event. The Chicago United Center which needed a scanty time to sell out was packed to the rafters with fans who had turned up to feast their eyes.

And as CM Punk sauntered his way towards the ring, soaking in the moment and living in his return, the crowd went berserk. The raucous and rousing welcome for CM Punk as a testament to his stature, one which is capable of acting as the bagpiper of AEW’s elevation to the next stage.
While the noise was enough to tell one about the maverick move Tony Khan had pulled off by signing CM Punk, what really alluded towards CM Punk’s persona were the visuals of a supporter reduced to tears upon seeing Punk. The man in question was seen inconsolable as he cried relentlessly upon seeing his favourite, Punk once again take to the ring.

Where Punk is bound to elevate AEW’s standing, WWE now face a massive task of retaining an already floundering viewership, one which has been severally impacted by the company’s bemusing decision making.
