Making his way into the semi-final of the 57kg freestyle wrestling event at the Tokyo Olympics on Wednesday, Haryana’s Ravi knew he needed to be at his best.
Up against a guile filled Nurislam Sanayev of Kazakhstan, Ravi took a 2-1 lead at the end of the first round. However, Nurislam refused to go away, snapping at Ravi’s heels across the showdown to race into a 9-2 lead.

Undeterred by the daunting task staring him in the face, Ravi rallied back as he grappled Sanayev before pinning him to the mat to progress to the final. Assured of either a gold or silver come tomorrow, Ravi’s consummate success was ushered in with joyous celebrations in his home town of Sonipat.
