Emiliano Martinez was itching for Cristiano Ronaldo to take a penalty against him as he coaxed the Manchester United player to step up

With Cristiano Ronaldo now in Manchester United’s unit, Bruno Fernandes was envisaged to step down as the penalty taker for the club. Ronaldo is widely touted as one of the finest penalty takers in the world, a player who was bound to take over duties from his countryman.

However, Fernandes’ petulant personality managed to shine through once again with him refusing to relinquish the duty to Ronaldo. As Manchester United won a late penalty against Aston Villa on Saturday, the club found a way back into the contest, a mean to keep its unbeaten run going in the Premier League.

Despite Ronaldo seen stepping up to take the penalty, Bruno was adamant he was the man for the job. Ronaldo’s pleas fell on deaf ears with him eventually stepping back.

However, it wasn’t only Ronaldo who was yearning to step up and level things up for his side. Aston Villa goalkeeper, Martinez was captured stepping up to the Portuguese player with him telling Ronaldo he wanted him to take the penalty rather than Fernandes.

Ronaldo would have wished he had listened to the Argentina with Fernandes sending the penalty way over the crossbar, a horrific effort which cost his side on the day. And Martinez was on hand to rub it into his face as he instantly turned around to dance infront of the Manchester United supporters behind the goal.

The miss ensured Martinez’s side took home the three points from the tie after Kortney Hause had previously scored through a header in the 88th minute.
