A student from the ABES College of Engineering in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, received a scolding from an assistant professor on October 20 at the college’s cultural festival and new student orientation. The professor, Mamata Gautam, reprimanded the host for politely saying “Jai Shri Ram” to the audience.
The incident gained attention after a video of a lecturer ranting at a student, who was allegedly Gautam, went viral online. The student was reprimanded by Gautam, who asked, “Why did you raise the slogan of Jai Shri Ram? Do you attend the university for this? This program focuses on culture. This can’t be permitted. Get out, please.” The student later explained that he was merely responding to the audience’s cries of “Jai Shri Ram.”

The guy on stage was greeted by other students on stage with “Jai Shri Ram,” and they all reacted with the same words in the video. The entire college auditorium then enthusiastically cheered “Jai Shri Ram,” which displeased Mamata Gautam, who got up from her seat and kicked the kid off the platform.
According to the viral footage, the event appears to have taken place at the ‘Navtarang 2023–24’ college cultural festival. The ABES College of Engineering, Ghaziabad, held the program to welcome the BTech first-year students.
The college’s administrators assert that they are unaware of this.
The videos incited fury online, with many netizens calling for the teacher to be punished for excessively bashing the student who addressed the crowd with the salutation “Jai Shri Ram.”
According to the ABES College of Engineering’s official website, Dr. Mamata Gautam has 16 years of expertise and is an expert in chemistry. She is one of the assistant professors at the college and holds a PhD.
After the video went viral, the Ghaziabad Police took notice of the situation and opened a preliminary investigation into the event.
