Who was Dilano van’t Hoff, 18 year old dies in crash during race
The incident happened at an event on the grounds of the Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix on Saturday morning. Organisers of the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine (FRECA) race identified the young driver who died as Dilano van’t Hoff, age 18.
Video of the incident shows Van’t Hoff colliding with another competitor and spinning his orange MP Motorsport vehicle on the course in the wet weather. Another car then slammed into the side of his damaged machine at a high rate of speed while having eyesight problems from the spray.
The series issued the following statement:
Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine sadly announces the death of MP Motorsport driver Dilano van’t Hoff. The incident happened during Spa-Francorchamps race 2.
“We want to express our sincere condolences to the family, team and friends. Royal Automobile Club of Belgium, the Circuit of Spa-Francorchamps and SRO Motorsports Group join Alpine and ACI in expressing their sincerest condolences to the driver’s family, team and friends.”
The 24 Hours of Spa endurance race stated on social media that all start-line entertainment arrangements have been discarded. Before the race begins, there will be a moment of silence to remember Van’t Hoff.
Who was Dilano van’t Hoff?
Dilano van’t Hoff was a Dutch racing driver who was born on July 26, 2004 and died on July 1, 2023.
Dutchman Van’t Hoff was taking part in FRECA for the second full season in a row. He won one podium slot in Barcelona in 2022 by finishing third. He had previously participated in two separate Formula 4 championships in 2021. He finished second in the series’ UAE round but went on to win the Spanish F4 championship later that year.
Anthoine Hubert, a Formula 2 driver, lost his life in an incident that occurred at Spa-Francorchamps in Stavelot, close to Liege, in 2019. After colliding with another vehicle and hitting a tyre barrier, the Frenchman was thrown into Juan Manuel Correa’s path, who struck his halted car at 135 mph.
“We are so sad to learn of the passing of Dilano van 't Hoff today at Spa-Francorchamps.
Dilano died in pursuit of his dream to reach the pinnacle of motorsport.
Along with the entire motorsport community, our thoughts are with his family and loved ones.”
