As the current Big Bash League (BBL) season continues on Sunday, a tense on-field moment occurred between David Warner and Matthew Wade, with the former allegedly ‘shoving’ the latter with the fight video viral

Happened during Hobart Hurricanes’ 5 wicket win against Sydney Thunder in the BBL. The Sydney first innings total of 135 was bowled out thanks in large part to Warner being dismissed without a hit by a toe-crushing yorker from Riley Meredith. It took the Hurricanes just 23 balls to chase down their meagre 136-run target.

The Hurricanes got off to a rough start in the chase, being reduced to 20/3 in just three overs. It could have been much worse for Hurricanes if not for the fact that wicketkeeper-batsman Wade was dropped by keeper Ollie Davies with the score on 3. Dropping Wade cost the Hurricanes dearly, as he and Tim David Warner contributed 79 runs for the fourth wicket, putting them in command.

Although the Hurricanes won handily, tensions rose in the middle of their innings. When the 10th over began, the Hurricanes’ score was 98/3. And tensions were rising between Wade and Chris Green, who was bowling.

Wade’s decision to retreat from his stance just as Green began his run-up was foreseen as a potential source of tension. After the halftime refreshments, Wade went up to David Warner and was rebuffed by a push from the batter.

After they had finished their drinks, Wade went over to Warner, but the Test great rebuffed the Hurricanes captain. The next three pitches resulted in Wade’s dismissal after he was caught in the outfield for 30 runs (22).

What does David Warner has to say about the fight?

When Channel 7 approached David Warner about the recent developments between him and Wade, he joked about it. And said he was only trying to preserve the peace. I’m selecting my battles, and because he’s on the smaller side, I’ve decided to take him on,” Warner said.

“I was trying to be the peace keeper there for once. They kept going.” Following the game, Wade was spotted chatting with Green and shaking hands with Warner.
