The 3rd Sri Lanka vs India T20 saw Dasun Shanaka take a sensational catch off his own bowling to dismiss Nitish Rana
With Krunal Pandya testing positive for COVID on Tuesday, the Indian side found itself in a real predicament. Although all the players in close contact of Pandya tested negative for Coronavirus, they were required to stay in isolation in lieu of the protocols in the country.
It saw India send out a massively depleted side on Wednesday, a team which faltered infront of Sri Lanka in the second T20. The same side faced a daunting task come Wednesday night as they strived to win the series for India.
With India going into the series decider with just five proper batsman at its disposal, the side needed a massive effort from the top order. However, the team dismally failed in its task with Shikhar Dhawan departing without opening his account in the first over itself.
It sparked a horrendous collapse as India found themselves at 25-4 inside 5 overs as Wanindu Hasaranga cleaned up the Indian batting unit. With Nitish Rana left at the last recognised batsman in the middle, the player knew he could deliver the innings of his life on the day.

However he was tentative, fetching at the ball with him jabbing at Dasun Shanaka’s ball in the 9th over. And Shanaka ended up taking one of the catches of the series as he dived to his wrong side to snare a sensational one handed catch to send back Rana.

That wicket was the final nail in India’s innings with the side putting on a scanty 55-6 at the end of 15 overs. Although the visitors still have to defend the total, the torrid showing by the batsmen has all but ended any slim chances India had of winning the series.
India who has earlier won the ODI series 2-1 are now bound to surrender the T20 series 2-1 to the home side.
