According to Chad Marchman, a Dallas Stars fan who was seated a few feet below the brawl during the game, the argument began because there was some uncertainty over whose seats were where. The man wearing the Benn jersey allegedly started harassing nearby spectators after being asked to leave before being attacked, according to Marchman.

Marchman’s film of the aftermath of the knockout strike shows the initial puncher’s bloodied lip. The n-word may also be heard being repeated by the individual sporting the Benn jersey. Finally, according to Marchman, the arena’s security staff intervened to separate everyone, and the Benn fan was then taken out of the area.

There is little information on how or why their dispute started, but the man wearing the green No. 14 jersey was obviously upset. At one point, he declared, “How about you step down here and I’ll box your ass,” posing a challenge to the opposing fan.

The Benn fan, who is white, muttered the n-word as the man in the black polo remained silent. His voice could be heard, “All right then. Stay up there, you f***ers. n**** n****.” Nearly as soon as the word left his mouth, the white fan with the black shirt threw a right hand that hit clean. In fact, the Benn supporter appeared to fall asleep for a short while as a result.

After the blow, the two struggled for a short while until another woman sprinted in and unleashed a barrage of punches of her own. Before the argument turned violently worse, several spectators eventually intervened.

The police have been contacted to see whether any arrests have been made, but there were no responses from their side. So, it’s unclear how the incident was settled. Regarding the game, the Stars were able to easily defeat Minnesota 4-1, demonstrating that they were unconcerned by the commotion in the stadium.
