Despite attempts to revive him with CPR by players from both teams, Negi was rushed to a nearby hospital in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Before Incident Negi’s Scores

Following a brief, the Mavericks set a target of 184 for the Bulls after scoring 183 for 9 in 19.2 overs, but the match was ultimately abandoned.

This unfortunate event echoes a similar incident a few months earlier, where an Indian cricket fan, Jyotish Kumar Yadav, aged 35, died after suffering a heart attack during the World Cup final won by Australia.

Yadav collapsed after India’s defeat and, despite efforts to save him, was declared dead at Sri Venkateswara Ramnarain Ruia government general hospital. At the time India had scored seven runs from six balls faced before collapsing, and the match, also broadcast on YouTube, had set a target of 184 for the Bulls after scoring 183 for 9 in 19.2 overs.

The S&B India Annual Cricket Tournament match, which Negi participated in, was later decided to be abandoned following his passing.

This sad incident occurred just over a fortnight before England’s anticipated Test series in India, featuring the second and third-best teams in the world, with the opening game scheduled for Thursday, January 25, in Hyderabad.

England’s Ben Stokes, recovering from knee surgery, is set to return, and 20-year-old off-spinner Shoaib Bashir from Somerset has been named in the squad.

Our deepest condolences with the family, friends, fans and loved-ones of Vikas Negi. May his departed soul rest in peace!
