Back in February 24, the BT21’s official Instagram account posted a teaser for a new series, which was titled INSIDE MANG with the caption, ‘WAR. IS. OVER’. The update came as a teaser that signaled Mang’s face reveal.
BT21 release Mang’s face reveal video
BT21 have finally released Mang’s face reveal video on April 5 revealing Mang’s face without its mask. Following the release, millions of ARMYs were took the reveal positively and also moved many emotionally.
The seven BT21 characters, Koya, RJ, Shooky, Mang, Chimmy, Tata and Cooky were initially introduced back in September 2017. Each of the seven characters were created by a BTS member. Mang, created by j-hope, was the only character, which wore a mask hiding its identity.
However, with the release of the INSIDE MANG Episode 6 video, fans finally got to see the face of Mang. In the video, Mang finally takes off its mask with newfound confidence after going through a journey of self-discovery. Mang reveals its face at sunrise on a terrace.
After the face reveal, RJ then comes to join him with a beverage and wishes Mang a good morning. Following which Mang and RJ sit together and look at the sunset. Many ARMYs have pointed out that the video of the two is related to the fact that j-hope will join his Jin hyung in the military soon. This is because several of BT21 characters’ features are directly based off BTS.
BTS’s Jin leaves to enlist in the military
Just recently in December last year, BTS’ eldest member, Jin left to enlist in the military. This year, in late February, BIGHIT MUSIC then announced that j-hope would be the next member to enlist. The BT21 producers probably gave a nod to this relationship with regards to Mang’s face reveal video with Jin’s character, RJ, greeting Mang in the morning.
On April 1, BIGHIT MUSIC released a statement informing fans that j-hope will be enlisting as an active-duty soldier. The company also requested fans to refrain from attending his entrance ceremony, since it is not a public event.

ARMYs had been eagerly waiting for the release of Mang’s face after five and a half years of waiting. As such, BT21 knew that the reveal would take the internet by storm when they posted Mang’s face reveal video. Although fans were eager to see the face reveal, they were not ready to see the emotional connection that the creators included in it.
Following the reveal, fans also trended ‘2seok’ by posting fan edits of Jin (Kim Seok-jin) and j-hope (Jung Ho-seok). The posted this with references to both RJ and Mang.
