The incident prompted a 12-minute halt so that the track could be repaired. This was the second collision of the day; the first collision occurred during overtime, involving Daniel Hemric’s vehicle. According to reports, Perkins’ car’s wheel broke off during the collision.

Soon the video of the incident went viral, with many social media users expressing their relief that Perkins was well even after facing such a dramatic and horrible accident.

How did it happen?

During Lap 49 of the race, Dexter Stacey’s sideways slide set off a chain of events, resulting in Perkins’ #02 Our Motorsports Chevrolet flipping over at least six times. Stacey collided with the #02 car, causing it to veer toward the outside retaining wall.

This was followed by a collision with Jade Buford’s car, which caused the #02 car to become airborne and spin sideways. Subsequently, the vehicle somersaulted multiple times down the backstretch before finally coming to a halt upright.

Despite the terrifying ordeal, the 23-year-old driver emerged from the wreckage seemingly unscathed. Later on, Perkins was sent to a nearby hospital for more testing, and Stacey and Buford were discharged from the facility.

Other wrecks in the Talladega race besides the Blaine Perkins incident

A devastating multi-car collision known as the “big one,” which killed most of the field, marred the conclusion of the Talladega Superspeedway race. Daniel Hemric, who was leading the race, tried to obstruct Sheldon Creed’s progress as the finish line drew closer.

Sadly, Creed didn’t respond quickly enough, which set off a disastrous series of events that resulted in other cars colliding with each other. Hemric’s automobile lost control and slammed into a number of other vehicles before coming to rest upside down.
