Watch AUSW vs INDW: Jhulan Goswami No Ball Gives Australia Women Win vs India Women, Decision Divides Opinion

Jhulan Goswami sent down a waist high no ball, her second of the 50th over, one which saw Australia reign supreme in the AUSW vs INDW 2nd ODI

Propelled by opener Smriti Mandhana’s stellar 86 run knock, India put on a mammoth 275 run target for Australia in the second ODI.

Beth Mooney Seals 2-0 Lead For Australia Women vs India Women

As the Indian women came out to defend the score and with it claw their way back into the series, the visitors were bound to be quietly confident of defending the score. It was a heroic effort with the bat from them, one which looked set to perturb the Australians and with it potentially put an end to their 25 match unbeaten spree.

Reducing Australia to 52-4, India were on top in the 2nd ODI with the side looking set to restore parity in the series. However, opener Beth Mooney had other plans with her managing to hold fort from one end despite wickets falling at regular intervals.

And she found the much needed support she yearned for in Tahila McGrath and Nicola Carey with two crucial partnerships taking Australia close to the score at hand. However, as Jhulan Goswami took up the ball ahead of the final over and Australia needed 13 to win, the odds were still heavily stacked in India’s favour.

Jhulan Goswami No Ball Sees Australia Take AUSW vs INDW 2nd ODI

Unfortunately for the visitors, the side ended up crumbling under pressure with Jhulan sending down horrid deliveries which paired with India’s shambolic fielding saw Australia needed 3 off the last delivery. It was then that controversy struck as Nicola Carey managed to only swath a full toss with Smriti Mandhana’s waiting hands with the Indian women erupting into jubilant celebrations.

However, the decision was referred to the third umpire who adjudged it to be a no ball. Despite Carey out for her crease and crouching, the on-field umpire’s decision was overturned with Australia needing two off the final ball to see them take a 2-0 win in the series.
