The Minister of Maldives, Ali Solih was reportedly stabbed on Monday afternoon, Aug 22, by a knife-wielding individual in Hulhumale, north of capital Male with the video viral on Twitter
The Minister Ali has sustained injuries on his left arm. Meanwhile the attacker was arrested soon after the horrific incident.

Who’s Ali Solih?
Ali Solih is the Minister of State for Environment Climate Change and Technology of Maldives. He is also the spokesperson for the JP (Jumhooree Party).
Jumhooree Party is the coalition partner of the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party of President Ibrahim Solih.
According to a report by the Times of Addu, Ali was attacked on Monday afternoon when he was riding his motorcycle on a road in Hulhumale.
As per the various reports of Maldivian media, the perpetrator recited a few verses of the Quran before launching the attack on Ali’s neck from behind.
Although the perpetrator’s knife missed the neck of Ali’s but slit part of his left arm. Soon after, Ali got off his motorbike and ran away to save himself from the attacker.
Currently he’s being treated at the Hulhumale hospital.
Speaking of attack, back in May 2021, an archipelago in the Indian Ocean was in news after former president of Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed was brutally attacked through a bomb blast outside his home in capital Male.
The explosive device was planted on a bike parked near the President’s car. After providing critical care to the President, he was airlifted to Germany, where he received months of treatment.
Lately, Maldives is facing a threat from rising Islamic radicalism as well as recruitment for global militant organizations.
The current government is headed by President Solih along with Speaker Nasheed, who’s known to be democratic and liberal in its approach towards governance and social norms.
Speaking of Ali Solih’s party, JP was founded by a group of MPs on 26 May 2008.
However, the party grew rapidly to become the largest opposition party in the Majlis for that year. Currently the party is headed by businessman and former finance minister Qasim Ibrahim.
