Alejandro Martinez is the older brother of Emiliano Martinez, the custodian for Aston Villa with a video of his car on fire viral
On Sunday, his car caught fire during a race in La Plata, a city south of Buenos Aires. Alejandro crashed into another car during the race, which set fire to his car.
Alejandro Martinez’s car was seen slowing down after the accident on video, and a pundit said that smoke was coming out of the left tyre. But within seconds, flames started coming out from under the car, and the announcer yelled, “Fire, fire! Martinez’s car is on fire!”
Alejandro Martinez was lucky that he was able to move quickly and get out of the car before moving away from it to avoid getting hurt. Later, he shared video from inside the car that showed the moment when flames went up the car’s hood and covered his windscreen as he stopped.

Alejandro wrote about the accident and how thankful he was that he wasn’t hurt in a post on social media. He wrote, “A beautiful weekend but one to forget. We were in the lead and in a minor race collision, I ran out of engine and it broke. Luckily, we came out of it unharmed. Another one to learn from. I thank my family for their unconditional support”
This year, Alejandro Martinez is competing in the Bora Cup. He drives a Volkswagen with the number 23, which is the same number his younger brother uses on the Argentinian national team. The Martinez brothers both love cars and auto racing, and they even went to Russia to watch the 2018 World Cup as fans.
Emiliano’s journey to the Copa America victory
Emiliano didn’t play for his country for the first time until 2021. He then helped Lionel Scaloni’s team win the Copa America that same year. Emiliano told the press at a press meeting before the final how he thought he would play in the 2022 World Cup. He said, “During the 2014 World Cup final, I was cooking a barbecue for my family. In 2018 in Russia, I was in the stands with my brother, and I told him that in the next one, I would be there.”
Emiliano was taken off the pitch Saturday when his team tied 1-1 with Brentford. At first, it was said that a ball had hit him in the groyne, but Villa boss Unai Emery later said that the goalkeeper had left the game because he had a stomach virus.
There’s no question that the Martinez brothers are very close, and this will be a good reminder of how dangerous their shared passion can be. Alejandro Martinez was lucky that he didn’t get hurt, but the accident is a warning that racing at high speeds can be dangerous.
