Age 17 Lil Tay reveals footballer Karim Benzema had slip into her Instagram DMs during Rakai’s live stream
Tay Tian aka Lil Tay has revealed that player Karim Benzema was in her DMs. She made this claim on April 6 in Rakai’s livestream.
During a recent Twitch livestream, 17-year-old content creator and rising online personality Lil Tay sparked headlines with a surprising revelation as while chatting with fellow streamer Rakai, the conversation shifted to their favorite footballers.
She then revealed that football star, age 37 Karim Benzema, currently playing for Al-Ittihad Club in Saudi Arabia, had messaged her on Instagram.
“[Benzema] is in my DMs,” she stated, prompting a stunned reaction from Rakai.
He questioned her claim, saying, “You’re lying,” to which she replied, “I didn’t answer.”
17-year-old Lil Tay was born on July 29, 2007 to attorney Christopher J. Hope and former real estate salesperson Angela Tian. Before relocating to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, at a young age, she was originally from Atlanta, Georgia, in the United States. Tay was split between her parents, who never got married.
An announcement that Tian was in the intensive care unit (ICU) in “critical condition” and had been diagnosed with a cardiac tumour was shared on her social media accounts on September 12, 2024. Tian shared an update on social media on September 14th, stating that she had an open-heart surgery that went well. Her new track, “Growing Up,” was released shortly after.
According to reports, Tay’s social media accounts were controlled by Jason, her elder half-brother. As Tay’s behaviour gained greater attention, Tay’s mother, Angela Tian, came under fire on the internet for permitting her young daughter to make offensive rap songs.
In an interview on Good Morning America, Tay defended her mother amid rumorus and criticism that she was pressuring her to act in this way, claiming that she was happy with her behaviour.
Lil Tay career
At the age of ten, Lil Tay first gained notoriety in early 2018 after videos of her rapping and boasting about her wealth and referring to herself as “the youngest flexer of the century” went viral on YouTube and Instagram, garnering millions of views.
After three months, her father petitioned to the Canadian Superior Court for complete custody and management of her influencer career; her mother would finally be given full custody, and her social media accounts were shut down.
When a fake statement claiming Tay had passed away was posted from her Instagram account in 2023, she became the focus of extensive media attention. She released the track “Sucker 4 Green” later that year.
