Regrettably, a devastating accident occurred during the 11th Esztergom–Nyerges Rally in Hungary, resulting in the fatalities of four spectators and injuries to seven others. The incident transpired on Sunday afternoon between the towns of Labatlan and Bajot. Authorities are actively investigating the specific circumstances of the collision. As per a police statement, a fatal crash occurred between Lábatlan and Bajót during the early afternoon of March 24.

According to Hungary’s National Ambulance Service, they dispatched eight ambulances and four helicopters to the scene. Local reports stated that a child was transported to the hospital with injuries deemed fatal, while another individual sustained serious injuries. Additionally, six more individuals, including a child, incurred minor injuries. Till now, there isn’t any information available regarding the identity of the four dead spectators.

What happened at the 11th Esztergom–Nyerges Rally?
Initial reports suggest that a rally car deviated from its course and collided with spectators, though the exact reasons for this are still unclear. Video footage shows the car losing control and sliding off the road before crashing into the assembled crowd. The vehicle, which was participating in the race, appeared to stray from its intended path for reasons that have yet to be determined.
Following the collision, clouds of dust enveloped the area, as depicted in the footage immediately afterward. As a result of this incident, the vehicle plowed into a group of bystanders located behind a roadside barrier. In footage capturing the aftermath of the tragic event, both officials and onlookers were seen rushing to the scene. The organizers halted the event following the crash.

Due to the aforementioned fatal accident, the race was evidently canceled. The Arrabona Rally Club, as the organizer, initially released a concise statement on their social media platform, declaring the race’s suspension. Subsequently, they confirmed its official cancellation and shared a statement from the Hungarian National Auto Sport Association (MNASZ).
