Prediction
Wang Qiang and Dalila Jakupovic are set to meet each other for the very first time in their WTA career.
After needing two victories in a row in the qualifiers to advance to the main draw, Qiang’s comeback victory in her opening match here came after a tough contest against Rebecca Peterson.
Qiang, ranked 141st in the world, was easily defeated in the first set but fought back to win the match 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4) and advance to round two.
Qiang played far better on the crucial points in a match where she broke her opponent just twice and dropped her serve three times. The former world number 12 gained an advantage over her opponent by gradually improving during the match as Peterson’s rhythm faltered.
Qiang will now take on a surprising opponent in round two and try to repeat her quarterfinal performance from here in 2019.
Meanwhile, on the other hand, Jakupovic is more known for her clay court performance and her recent appearances on the ITF lower circuit.
Because of this, some people were surprised to see her reach the second round of this competition in Prague, which was played on a hard court. Things have undoubtedly gone her way, though.
To begin with, Jakupovic won consecutive straight-set matches in the preliminaries to advance to the main draw, where she was paired against Alison van Uytvanck. Even at the beginning of the match, Van Uytvanck wasn’t at her best. However, seven games into the match, she withdrew due to a lower back injury.
Wang Qiang shouldn’t have any trouble defeating Jakupovic in this match, and she is anticipated to win in straight sets.
