The World Cup brought an end to Dravid’s two-year contract, and he is not expected to ask for, nor take, an extension if the BCCI offers one.
It is anticipated that Dravid’s close friend VVS Laxman, who now coaches a backup Indian team that plays Australia in a five-match Twenty20 International series beginning on Thursday, will assume the role, as per a report in TOI. Starting on Thursday in Visakhapatnam, the Indian team will take on Australia in a five-match Twenty20 International series. The team’s interim head coach at present is Laxman, the Head of Cricket at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
Numerous BCCI officials confirmed that the legendary batter, whose World Cup contract expires at the end of the tournament, notified the BCCI of his intention to resign as head coach of the Indian team, a report in Times of India suggests. The TOI cited a trustworthy BCCI source as saying:
Laxman has expressed his keenness for the job. During the World Cup, Laxman travelled to Ahmedabad to meet BCCI’s top bosses in this regard. He’s likely to sign a long-time contract with the team in that capacity for the upcoming tour of South Africa, which will be his first as a full-time India head coach.”
As VVS Laxman is expected to be the next head coach of the team, let us have a look at the managerial coach.
