Although the player was expected to arrive in the summer of 2024, Barcelona later decided to move more quickly, and he will now be a member of the squad for the balance of the 2023โ€“24 campaign. Mundo Deportivo reports that Roque will play his final Athletico Paranaense game against Cuiaba on December 7 and arrive at FC Barcelona on December 27.

According to the article, the Catalan giants will play Almeria on December 20 and then enjoy a brief Christmas vacation before returning to training on December 28. Roque is scheduled to arrive in Barcelona on December 27 and begin working out with the team the next day.

Can Barcelona register Roque?

Over the past two seasons, Barcelona’s financial difficulties and inability to adhere to La Liga’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations have made it difficult for the team to acquire new players. Initially, Barcelona lacked the salary space to add another player to their roster and for that reason, Roque’s situation was also unknown.

However, since Gavi is out for the rest of the season due to injury, La Liga regulations allow them to register the Brazilian for six months with 80% of his salary, or roughly โ‚ฌ5 million or 4.3m pounds. So, Roqueโ€™s addition to the squad strengthens the roster, providing Barca with much-needed backup behind 36-year-old forward Robert Lewandowski.

Roque is making a comeback from a recent injury

After missing two months of action with an ankle injury, Roque made his comeback last weekend, playing 26 minutes in a goalless draw against Vasco. On Friday, he played 45 minutes against Cruzeiro and scored his first goal since September.

Having graduated from the same Cruzeiro academy as the legendary Ronaldo Nazario, Roque joined Athletico at the beginning of 2022 and has made 80 appearances while scoring 28 goals. He made it to the Copa Libertadores final with them last year.

At the age of eighteen years and twenty-five days, he became the youngest player to debut for the five-time world champions since 17-year-old Ronaldo did it in 1994. In March, he got his first cap for Brazil.
