Virat Kohli Captaincy Record: From Sparkling Test Record To Trophyless IPL Sojourn

Virat Kohli is the current captain of the Indian team and IPL side RCB, a player who has over the years gone onto forage an exceptional captaincy record

Virat who was groomed under M.S. Dhoni is a very attacking captain. The top-order batsman is considered one of the greatest players of the game, but people often doubt his captaincy overlooking his records.

Former Indian Captains

The Indian cricket team is lucky enough to be blessed by brilliant captains right from the start. If we talk of history, we’ve had captains like Ajit Wadekar, Bishen Singh Bedi, Sourav Ganguly in the early days who brought glories to the country by winning matches in those conditions. In the later phase, we had Kapil Dev who won us our first ever world cup, Azharuddin who was a spectacular captain, Sourav Ganguly, and M.S. Dhoni.

I believe what Indian cricket is today is because of the contributions of M.S and Sourav Dada. We also had Rahul Dravid as our captain for a while, he won us our first series in England.

Virat Kohli Captaincy Record

With the likes of captains like them, Virat who got the captaincy right after the crowd favorite M.S. Dhoni was subjected to a lot of criticism. Obviously, because he was given the captaincy while M.S. was still playing. And it is because of this fact that people don’t like Virat’s captaincy even though he brought a lot of laurels.

Is Virat better than Dhoni?

If we look into the stats, Virat is excelling in that front but if we talk about historical wins, M.S. Dhoni has an upper hand there. He is statistically the best captain in Asia. He took the Indian test side from No.7 position to No.1 in the ICC Test rankings and has been consistent there for more than 5 years.

The recent test match victory is an example of his attacking mindset. He could’ve gone for the draw but he chose to declare and we know the results. However, he continues to remain bereft of an IPL trophy, a massive blot on what has been an otherwise relatively fine effort with the reigns of the Indian cricket team in his hands.
