His most recent bowling in ODIs before this match was on August 31, 2017, against Sri Lanka, where he bowled two overs and conceded 12 runs. In the 2015 ODI World Cup semifinals against Australia, Kohli bowled one over and conceded seven runs.

Across various formats in international cricket, Kohli has bowled 161.5 overs, taking a total of eight wickets. This includes 107.2 overs in ODIs, 25.2 overs in T20Is, and 29.1 overs in Tests. His longest spell as a bowler was during a 2012 Test match against Australia in Sydney.
