Vinod Kumar Wins Bronze Medal For India In Discus Throw At The Tokyo Paralympics By Breaking The Asian Record

Vinod Kumar who finished third in the discus throw event at the Tokyo Paralympics 2020 won India’s third medal of the day

After Bhavina Patel had won India’s first medal at the Tokyo Paralympics, Nishad Kumar went onto add to her silver. The para-athlete went onto bring home India’s second medal of the marquee games with a jump of 2.06m.

Not only did he make it two silver medals for India in Tokyo but he also crafted a new Asian record. The country now has another Asian record to its name with Vinod Kumar clobbering the previous best in Asia in discus throw this evening.

Vinod Kumar Adds India’s Third Medal At The Tokyo Paralympics With Bronze In Discus Throw

India’s Vinod Kumar who has won bronze in the men’s F -51/52 discus throw at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games went onto make a new Asian record with his throw throw of 19.91m. Vinod threw 17.46m, 18.32m, 17.80m, 19.12m, 19.91m and 19.81m in his six throws to assure himself of a bronze medal, the country’s first third placed finish at the ongoing games.

Poland’s Piotr Kosewicz came in first with a throw of 20.02m whilst Croatia’s Velimir Sandor took silver with a throw of 19.98m and Paralympics record holder, Aigars Apinis came in fourth. With Vinod’s win, India now have three medals at the Tokyo games with all of them coming in on Sunday only.

There couldn’t have been a more fine day to rake in the medals with the country celebrating its National Sports Day today as well in remembrance of hockey giant, Major Dhyan Chand. The hockey player only recently had the Khel Ratna named after him as a long asked for demand was finally fulfilled by the incumbent, PM Narendra Modi government.
