Vikram was born into a wealthy business family in India and he enjoyed a privileged childhood. He followed all the education he wanted.

From a very young age, Vikram Sarabhai developed a very deep interest in science and mathematics. Vikram Sarabhai started researching cosmic rays at the Indian Institute of Science which was based in Bangalore, India. His dedication and interest published his first scientific paper within a time span of two years of starting his research.

Vikram Sarabhai once again went to England and later on returned to India when India got independent. Vikram played a key role in the launching of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

Vikram Sarabhai was born and raised as one of the eight children of Ambalal and Sarla Devi in the city of Ahmedabad, Gujarat in India. Vikram’s family was an affluent family which managed numerous textile mills in their state. He was born on 12 August, 1919 and died aged 52 years.

Dr Vikram Ambalal Sarabhai died on December 30, 1971 due to cardiac arrest in Thiruvananthapuram. However, his family was refused access to his body at the time with his death said to have been due to other reason. His body was cremated in Ahmedabad later on where he was born.

He married classical dancer Mrinalini in 1942 with two having a son Kartikeya and daughter Mallika.

Vikram Sarabhai passed his intermediate Science examination from the College of Gujarat. Later he went to England for his further studies. Later on, Vikram enrolled himself at the college of St. John’s, the University of Cambridge from where he received the Tripos in the Natural Sciences in the year 1940.

Vikram Sarabhai’s visionary work in the field of space science was exceptional. This scientist was decorated with two of India’s most honorable awards which were, the Padma Bhushan in the year 1966 and the Padma Vibhushan honorable award in the year 1972.

One of the most significant contributions to the nation of India was the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), which Vikram helped out to launch in the year 1969. The most major objective of the organization was to advance space technology and apply it for national benefits in India.

The Vikram Sarabhai Space Center, an Indian Space Research organization lead facility for launch vehicle development has been set up in Thiruvananthapuram to honor him.
