Vijay Barse (born 1945) is a Nagpur-based social worker and retired professor. Barse was a sports instructor at Nagpur’s Hilsop College. After seeing a few of disadvantaged youngsters playing with a homemade football and being inspired to form a soccer team, he launched the Slum Soccer organisation in 2001. With his wife, Ranjana Barse, and son, Abhijeet Barse, he founded the Krida Vikas Sanstha Nagpur (KSVN).
He is a Hindu while his cast is unknown. Born in 1945, he is aged 76 years and has a height of 5 feet and 10 inches.
Vijay Barse On Satyameva Jayate
Vijay Barse’s tale was also revealed in the first episode of Bollywood actor Aamir Khan’s TV programme Satyamev Jayate. Slum Soccer was founded in India by Vijay Barse. Aamir Khan, the Bollywood superstar, presented an episode of Satyameva Jayate in which he made an appearance. In the episode, Barse said that he used to work as a sports instructor at Nagpur’s Hislop College when he witnessed a group of students kicking a broken bucket in the rain.
Vijay on Slum Soccer
After Vijay presented a bunch of boys each a football, he noticed another bunch of kids kicking a tennis ball about. This is when he realised that as long as young children remain on the field, they are not exposed to negative behaviour.
“I realised that as long as these youngsters were on the field, they were free of negative behaviours.” On Satyameva Jayate, he stated, “What else can a teacher give?”
As a result, Vijay Barse brought these children to a playground that became known as Slum Soccer. Zopadpatti Football was the name he gave to the team. During his TEDx lecture, he remarked, “I understood that all players come from zopadpatti/slums, and I have to work for them solely so I may maintain this name.”
Slum soccer quickly rose to prominence. Matches were staged at the municipal and district levels as the club expanded. Even the media began to report on it, piqueing children’s interest in joining the club. After reading a storey about his father in an American newspaper, Vijay’s son, who was living in the United States at the time, came to India to assist his father.
The BBC also covered Slum Soccer’s national competition in 2007. Following this, Barse was invited to South Africa’s Cape Town, where he met Nelson Mandela.
