Mason Greenwood who had received an elbow to the chin received no love from the Southampton fans
After wiping the floor with Leeds United in their Premier League 2021/22 season, Manchester United went travelling to the St. Mary’s Stadiums to face off against Southampton on Sunday. The club was striving to make it two wins on the bounce with the three points seeing them hold onto top spot.
While new signings Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane didn’t find a place in the team’s playing 11, the club had more than enough firepower to maraud past its opposition of the day. However, the match was far from going to be a straightforward one, a narrative which was made apparent given the hostile atmosphere in the stadium.
Southampton Supporter Irked At Mason Greenwood Going Down
Mason Greenwood was quick to face the ire of the home side’s supporters who were livid as he went down ensuing a challenge from Moussa Djenepo. Receiving an elbow to his chin from Moussa, Greenwood had ended up hitting the ground with Jack Stephens seen seething that play was stopped.
In the backdrop of the incident, a Southampton supporter was captured going berserk. He was captured bellowing at Greenwood who he believed had dived as he emulated the gestures Greenwood was making of holding his stricken area.

Greenwood was subsequently booed by the Southampton supporters who were soon rejoicing in jubilant celebrations as their team took the lead on the day. A wonderfully taken Che Adams goal saw Southampton race into a 1-0 lead with Manchester United being shambolic as they tried to play out from the back.
While the match still has a sizeable race to run with us only in the first half, the feistiness and bit of spark added to the tie is set to see us be in for an intriguing showdown.
