Stuart Binny has the best bowling figures by an Indian in ODI cricket owing to his 6/4 record against Bangladesh

Stuart Binny’s career never really managed to take off. Despite him getting more than enough chances at both the international stage and in the IPL, the player failed to justify the faith earmarked in him with dwindling performances seeing him being offloaded at all levels.

Stuart Binny Announces His Retirement

Landing roles at the biggest stage, Binny’s outing is largely said to be credited to his father. And while influence managed to get him only so far, Binny did manage to come up with a handful of decent displays.

As he announced his retirement from both international and first-class cricket on Monday, the most notable of performances from him came to mind. It was undoubtedly his showing against Bangladesh, a performance which not only saw India win the encounter but also saw Binny take home the Indian record.

Binny recording the best ever individual ODI bowling figures occurred during India’s second ODI of a series against Bangladesh. Leading the series 1-0, India had gone onto collapse for a meagre 105 in the second match, a score Bangladesh looked set to chase down with the score at 44-2.

It was from there that Binny took over control of the encounter as he sent down a match winning spell of 6/4 and in the process broke Anil Kumble’s record of 6/12, figures the spinner had achieved against West Indies way back in 1993. Barring that display though, Binny’s career made for dismal viewing with the all-rounder failing to perform with either bat or ball.

Binny is married to TV presenter, Mayanti Langer who has often backed her husband publicly despite his appalling showings.
