Thiago de Lima, 36, was seen on surveillance striking Erika de Lima, 33, several times before he shot her, killing her, according to local news sources, which were reported by the New York Post. The pair, who had been hitched for about six months, are said to have gotten into a furious fight in their vehicle last Sunday. According to the site, Erika tried to eject Thiago from the car as the argument got more heated. After leaving, Thiago is said to have punched Erika multiple times before firing at least two rounds.

Thiago left the scene after the incident but came back soon after, according to the New York Post. He allegedly tried to put Erika back in the car as neighbours came out of their houses. He hurried her to the hospital, but when they got there, they pronounced her dead.

Erika reported that Thiago had threatened her with domestic violence approximately a month before the shooting. After a night out, he allegedly became envious and threatened her at home with a revolver. Later on, Erika chose not to file a police report, and Thiago refuted the claims that he had threatened to shoot Erika with the gun. Erika is survived by her two daughters from a prior relationship. Thiago is currently being prosecuted for homicide.

The brutal killing led to public outrage

In addition to shocking the neighbourhood, the crime has brought attention to the seriousness of gender-based violence and sparked a national dialogue on victim protection. Erika had reported Thiago for threats and domestic abuse in October of that same year, highlighting the growing strain in their relationship.

The uproar from the public emphasizes how critical it is to address gender-based and domestic abuse, especially among security personnel. This event is a sobering reminder of how violent crimes interact with society, their triggers, and the lasting effects they might have. Erika’s passing has brought attention to the need for stronger victim protection protocols and more stringent oversight of law enforcement personnel.
