Arsenal maintained their prolific form in the Premier League with a convincing 4-1 victory over Newcastle at the Emirates on Saturday. The win propelled them back within two points of league leaders Liverpool.

Despite a midweek stumble in the Champions League with a 1-0 defeat at Porto, Mikel Arteta’s team swiftly rebounded domestically, securing their sixth consecutive Premier League win and bringing their goal tally to 25 during this impressive run.

However, undettered by their defeat on the day, one fan who managed to catch hold of an Arsenal scarf was seen rubbing it between his a*s crack in the stands of the Emirates stadium.

Arsenal capitalized on set-pieces, with an own goal from Sven Botman and strikes from Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka, and Jakub Kiwior from a corner sealing the comprehensive victory over Newcastle.

What Did Arteta Say?

Arteta expressed his satisfaction, stating, “We continued in the same way, we maintained our rhythm, and it was a joy to watch the team play. The boys displayed remarkable prowess, exhibiting a high level of aggression, and our victory in the game was well-deserved.”

The Gunners are determined to secure their first league title in two decades and are eager to rectify last season’s stumble in the final stretch, which allowed Manchester City to clinch the treble.

Despite being in red-hot form, Arsenal currently holds the third position, trailing one point behind second-placed City. The title race is intriguingly poised with 12 games remaining in the season.

The setback dealt another blow to Newcastle’s hopes of securing a spot in European football for the upcoming season. Eddie Howe’s team was clearly outperformed, leaving them in eighth place and trailing by 15 points from the top four.

What Did Howe Say?

Additionally, they have allowed 23 goals in their last eight league games. “We fell short in various facets of our performance. The fundamentals were not executed properly,” expressed Howe.

“At times, when playing away, there are phases in the game where you need to endure challenges. Regrettably, we failed to weather the storm and ended up conceding some avoidable goals.”

Howe found himself compelled to field goalkeeper Loris Karius for only the second time since the player’s arrival at Newcastle in 2022.

The initial goal had an element of luck, with Karius saving Gabriel Magalhaes’ forceful header, only for the ball to rebound off Botman and trickle over the goal line. Arsenal’s proficiency from set-pieces was evident, as they have now netted 19 times in the Premier League this season.

The second goal, however, was a display of skill. Jorginho’s precise pass over the defense found Gabriel Martinelli, who expertly set up Havertz for his eighth goal of the season.

Saka continued his impressive form, scoring seven times in the last five Premier League games. Only a stellar save from Karius at his near post prevented the Englishman from extending his scoring streak before halftime.

Despite Havertz missing a chance early in the second half, he played a pivotal role in the third goal. Saka, receiving the ball from Havertz, skillfully maneuvered inside and struck into the far corner, securing his 16th goal of the season. The credit for Arsenal’s set-piece prowess goes to their coach, Nicolas Jover.

Arsenal’s dominance was further emphasized when Kiwior’s header from Declan Rice’s corner, 21 minutes from time, deflected in off Lewis Miley.

Newcastle managed a late consolation goal when former Arsenal midfielder Joe Willock headed in off the post five minutes from time.

Nonetheless, this did little to dampen Arsenal’s Saturday night celebration, as they sent a clear message to Liverpool and City that they are determined to withstand the pressures of a title race, unlike their struggles from 12 months ago.
