Despite it being a high impact crash at a searing speed, Manuel Gomes managed to somehow stave injury as he walked out his Aston Martin safe at 24 Hours of Le Mans 2021
A true test of a driver’s grit, pluck, concentration and resolve, 24 Hours of Le Mans has over the years become the true test of one’s fight and character. Running across the length of a day, the requirement to race at night and in the midst of all kinds of changing weather has only made the endurance race one of the toughest in the world of motorsports.
The high pressure nature of the race as seen some of the most horrendous crashes emanate from it over its long history. Since 1923, we’ve been witness to scores of appalling accidents with drivers and teams seeing their races be truncated way too early owing to these crashes.
The 89th edition of the race in France was no different. As sporadic bursts of rain marred the venue, drivers found it increasingly tough to keep crashes at bay.
24 Hours of Le Mans 2021 Sees Manuel Gomes Of Aston Martin Crash Into The Barriers
However, in the slew of crashes with took place on Saturday and Sunday, one which has managed to stand tall amongst the rest is that of Manuel Gomes. The Aston Martin man was involved in a high-speed smash on the run into Indianapolis, one which sent his Aston Martin spinning into the barriers.

It made for painful viewing with many fearing the worst for Gomes. And while it took some time to get the Portuguese rider out of his car, he was eventually released as he became the first official retirement at just over the 3 hour mark.
