Kanye West has paid tribute to Lionel Messi in his new album Donda in the song, Off The Grid
After a delayed release since its first announcement in July 2020, Kanye West’s new album, Donda was finally dropped come August of 2021. And while the album featured a string of artists and songs on it, the most notable moment which has emanated from its release is a special mention to Lionel Messi.
Kanye West Raps About Lionel Messi In Off The Grid, A Song In His New Album Donda
The rapper who had previously organised three different listening parties for the album finally came out with it after a raft of edits. And while he isn’t publicly known to be an ardent lover of football, West made reference to PSG player Lionel Messi.
Kanye’s mention of Lionel Messi comes in the song, Off the Grid, which features Fivio Foreign and Playboy Carti where he drops a bar with the lyrics, “Don’t try to test me. I keep it clean, but they could get messy. I talk to God every day. That’s my bestie. They playin’ soccer in my backyard. I think I see Messi”

While it remains to be seen if Kanye does indeed admire Messi or has just decided to buy publicity from Messi’s transfer to PSG, the rapper has managed to sway listeners his way with the reference. Lionel Messi’s switch to Ligue 1 from Barcelona earlier ended up emerging as one of the biggest talking points of the year.
Messi finally made his debut for the French club when he walked out as a substitute in the second half, replacing Neymar in the side’s bygone 2-0 win against Reims.
