Irked by Dara O’Shea kicking the ball away prior to his penalty, Cristiano Ronaldo decided to land a slap on the Irish player
Just one goal away from moving ahead of Ali Daei as the top goal scorer in international football, Cristiano Ronaldo looked set to finally clobber the long standing record as Porutgal earned a penalty against Ireland. As Ronaldo stepped up to take the penalty, all signs emoted towards the Manchester United man netting for his side in the FIFA 2022 World Cup qualifier.
However, Dara O’Shea wasn’t in a mood to make things straightforward for the Portuguese. Right as Ronaldo placed the ball on the spot, Dara stepped in to kick the ball away in an effort to perturb Ronaldo.
Dara O’Shea Receives Slap From Cristiano Ronaldo During Portugal vs Ireland
It was an action which left Ronaldo lived with him clearly not taking well to Dara’s antics. In fact, the Portuguese went as far as to slap Dara across the shoulder ensuing which the Irishman went onto hit the ground.
The entire incident though managed to evade the referee’s attention on the night with Ronaldo managed to escape without even receiving a caution for what should have been a red card offence. The balance of life did catch up with Ronaldo though with his subsequent penalty being saved as 19 year old Bazunu dived to his left to keep out the effort.

Ireland looked headed for a win on the night as the side did extremely well to close out proceedings as it safeguarded its 1-0 lead. Unfortunately, the side wasn’t so fortuitous with Ronaldo taking things into his own hands as he struck twice in the tailend of the affair.
His headers in the closing stages of the match not only gave Portugal a 2-1 win but also made Ronaldo the leading international scorer with 111 goals.
