Valorant VCT 2023 Challengers Split 1 schedule, date, teams list, format, location, bracket
The History of the VCT
Valorant Champions Tour is a very bright and global but young event since the game itself was released in 2020 and the inaugural season took place in 2021. Initially, the tournament adopted an open-qualifier format that included three tiers: Challengers, Masters, and Champions. There were two Stages in the Challengers and Masters competitions and the tournament outline looked like this:
- The championship starts with Stage 1 Challengers. Those are regional events the teams could have entered through open qualifiers.
- Best teams from Stage 1 Challengers are no longer divided by their region and move to Stage 1 Masters.
- Stage 2 Challengers occurs with the competitors being the winners from Stage 1 Masters and teams that got through another open qualifier.
- The leaders advance to Stage 2 Masters where the winners get to the Champions tournament.
- Regional “Last Chance” qualifiers give one team per region an opportunity to participate in the Champions global event.
- 16 teams fight for the prize pool: 4 groups of four teams in a double-elimination format in the group stage and then 8 teams in a double-elimination bracket. All tournament matches are of Bo3 format except for the Lower Bracket Final and Grand Final which are Bo5.
Every tournament stage had a prize pool. In 2022, the prize pool for the Valorant Champions was 1000000$ divided between all 16 participants which is a quite refreshing and interesting approach.
VCT Partnership Ecosystem for 2023
A new format revealed by Riot Games involves 30 teams divided into three International Leagues: Americas, EMEA, and Pacific. A kick-off three-weeks tournament features all 30 teams with the winner gaining a ticket to the Master, so the stakes are pretty high and we surely know it will be fun to watch.
Then, ten teams partnered in their respective leagues will play in three cities: Americas in LA, EMEA in Berlin, and Pacific in Seoul. The best of the best get the chance to meet again in the Masters Stage coming in June to Tokyo. As we already know, the winners of Masters directly qualify to Champions.
And what’s with the Challengers now? The best teams of regional Challengers move to the Challengers Ascension event. The leaders in that get promoted to an International League of their respective region.
International Leagues Teams in 2023
According to Riot Games, the process of team selection took them months and included a meticulous study of the application followed by an in-depth interview in combination with a thorough financial review. Three main features they looked for in the teams were:

- A history of the strong and stable connection between the team and the fans created through the years of excellent performance, having a great roster, engaging content, and a well-known brand.
