The makers of the movie did an amazing job with the casting. Keerthy Suresh deserves an award just for acting with her eyes while Tovino Thomas brings an effortless quality to the storyline. But the main aspect of the story was the marriage between the two lawyers. And how they tried to manage and separate their personal relationship from the professional. This is what Vaashi is all about.

How do Ebin and Madhu Fight the Case?

Movie starts with Madu and Ebin as the two lawyers who always seem to be at disagreement. Ebin comes from a well-known political family, who’s trying to make a name for himself independently while Madhu is struggling to establish her own identity in a male-dominated law firm.

The pair had a common friend and senior named Satheesh. All three of them have a habit of eating lunch together. Satheesh tells Ebin that a certain office space is available for renting but Ebin is not sure if he can take it so he asks for some time to think about it.

Meanwhile, Madhu left her job after she was treated unfairly at her office and was blamed for a clerk’s mistake of misplacing the documents. She now wants to litigate independently.

So, Madhu asks Satheesh if she can rent the office space which he was talking about with Ebin, prompting Ebin to say that he also wants that office space too. Satheesh tells them, if they want the space, then they can share it which led them to agree to his decision.

Once they rent the office space, the friendship between them starts growing and they slowly start falling in love. One day, Ebin decides to confess his feelings to Madhu. But instead of confessing directly, he comes up with a story as to how he needs to go on a date with an arranged match done by his mother.

Madhu also tells him that she herself is looking to go on a similar date. Later that evening, while talking to each other, Madhu playfully tells him that she had seen through his lies and she also has strong feelings towards him, which starts the beginning of their relationship.

Few days later, Ebin’s parents tell him that they want him to get married, which is when he reveals his relationship with Madhu. His parents agreed but however, Madhu is quite hesitant because she is not settled into her career.

Ebin started a new job as a Public prosecutor after his brother-in-law Jose, pulled some strings and placed him ahead of his peers. But Madhu, has yet to catch up and this plays into fear. Meanwhile, she gets a case from a family friend.

Gautham, the friend’s brother, has been accused of sleeping with a girl under the false promise of marriage, which amounts to rape. Madhu needs to prove his innocence. The same case goes to Ebin from the side of the girl, which led him to prove that Gautham is guilty.

The couple are at the opposite side of the case and neither one is happy about it. As the case progressed, uneasiness between them started growing but they tried to ignore it as much as possible for the sake of their relationship.

Finally, they get married and settle into their new life while walking on eggshells around each other. But one day, it all comes to a boiling point, when Jose asks Madhu to come to help him with a particular case in the police station.

Madhu denies it by saying that her coming up to the police station won’t resolve anything, and that they can solve everything in the court.

Later that day, Ebin and Madhu had an argument when Ebin tells her that she should have gone when Jose asked her as that would have reassured Jose of the situation.

But Madhu was adamant and said that such unnecessary diplomacy is not her forte which causes further tension between their relationship and the issues that they have been ignoring so far started to come on surface.

At that time, Satheesh invites Ebin to his house for dinner to spark a reconciliation between the pair. But things take a turn for the worse, and Ebin and Madhu end up challenging each other that if Ebin loses the case, he would quit his job as Public Prosecutor and return to their previous office.

Vaashi Ending Explained

As the case progresses, the distance between the pair increases. They start going to the office separately and even start sleeping in different rooms. Meanwhile, the case itself gets Messier as Gautham admits to Madhu that he was aware about the feelings Anusha had for him.

On the other side, Anusha admits to Ebin that she doesn’t want to put Gautham behind the bars for so long. During the hearing in the court Saira, a common friend between Gautham and Anusha comes to give her statement.

Saira said in her statement, that she was aware of the fact that Anusha had feelings for Gautham but she didn’t know if Gautham knew of them as well. This changes the entire situation as it takes away the proof of whether Gautham was manipulating Anusha or not.

At this time, Ebing figures out that this all happened because of Anusha and not because of Madhu. He confronts her and asks for a reason behind all this and Anusha tells him that she never clearly spoke about her feelings to Gautham.

She also tells that the day after they slept together, they didn’t speak to each other, and she realizes that if they had spoken to each other, things wouldn’t have come this far. Anusha was regretful of the consequences that she had brought in the lack of communication.

Later the same day, Satheesh advises Ebin to not let this conflict get the better of them and to reconcile with his wife and Ebin does the same. Like old times, he starts following Madhu on his bike instead of his car. Once they reach their home, they hug each other while crying and revealing the pain that had been caused by the struggle they had been through.

Next day in the court, the judge states that while it couldn’t be proven by the prosecution officer that Gautham had actually promised a marriage to the victim but he definitely had relations with her while she was drunk and that itself made him a culprit.

For that reason, he was sentenced to 10 years in jail. Following this, the couple decided that since they have to work professionally it’s best that they don’t let this kind of situation get the better of their relationship. It also turned out that Madhu decided to appeal in the High Court for Gautham’s case.

Although it’s a bittersweet ending, it makes us understand relationships without the rose-colored glasses and what it means to make a relationship work beyond the identity as individuals.
