About 40 minutes into the game, Swanson was tackled, and she immediately displayed signs of concern. According to Steven Goff of The Washington Post, she was eventually carried off the pitch and transferred to a local hospital.

Swanson was slide tackled towards the end of the first half and instantly rose to her feet while grabbing her left knee. She motioned to the sidelines in an effort to get help. As soon as play was stopped, Swanson was swiftly encircled by teammates, and Rose Lavelle approached her on the ground to console her. Swanson was attended to by medical personnel for more than five minutes while they worked to immobilise her leg.
Swanson had suffered a leg injury twice that day. She had previously clashed with the Irish defender and seemed uncomfortable, but she was still able to stand up and resume the game. Swanson was carried off the pitch and brought to the hospital, but there has been no update on her condition.
