The star QB completed a number of brilliant throws throughout the course of the season, and has seen a surge in recent form. Cookus seemed all set and bound for an impressive campaign ending with a championship title this season. However, all that excitement was cut short in the last game against the Stallions, after he endured a horrible leg injury that could leave him out for months.

How it actually happened
Cookus suffered a severe blow to his ankle after being on the receiving end of a tackle by Stallions’ defensive lineman Dondrea Tillman. The North Arizonian product was on fire before the mishap, helping his team build up to a 23-20 lead with some impressive throws.
The injury took place in the fourth quarter when Cookus fell back to pass deep. Cookus dropped to the ground after he was pulled down, causing him to dig his foot into the turf in an awkward manner. The result was a horrible injury to the ankle area, more specifically a broken fibula.
The Consequences
The injury to Cookus proved fatal for the entire team, as it cost them a win against the Stallions and a possible USFL championship title. The Stallions, who were initially trailing behind when Cookus was on the field, bounced back in the latter half of the fourth quarter, coming from behind and managing to hold on for a 33-30 victory.
How long will the injury last?
The injury could keep Cookus sidelined for several months, and he could even possibly undergo surgery as well. However, the good news is that, The injury happened at the end of the season. This means that he could recover off-season and not miss too many crucial games.
Cookus is the type of player who can come back fit the next season, ready for another trailblazing run of performances. Maybe this time in a different setting, donning the colors of an NFL team.
