The death of head coach Amir Abdur-Rahim is being mourned by the South Florida Bulls basketball squad.
Amir Abdur-Rahim passed away as a result of problems that arose during a medical treatment. He was forty-three at the time of his passing. In his first season as head coach, Abdur-Rahim guided the Bulls to the regular season championship in the American Athletic Conference after being hired by USF in 2023.

The school said he died from complications that occured while he was undergoing a medical procedure at a Tampa-area hospital.
He is survived by his wife Arianne Buchanan, daughters Laila and Lana and son Aydin.
In addition to expressing his sympathies to the late coach’s family, USF athletic director Michael Kelly called Abdur-Rahim a “authentic” and “driven” individual.
43-year-old Amir Abdur-Rahim was born on March 18, 1981 in a Muslim family. He was 6ft 2in tall. The father of Abdur-Rahim Amir was Shareef Rahim and his mother Deborah taught Christian special education. William Shareef, his brother, is currently the president of the NBA G League and was an NBA player for 13 years.
Abdur-Rahim and his wife Arianne Buchanan are parents to three kids.Abdur-Rahim had 12 brothers and sisters and one of his brothers is G League president and former NBA player Shareef Abdur-Rahim.
Amir attended Garden City Community College. On October 24, 2024, Abdur-Rahim passed away in a Tampa Bay area hospital due to difficulties resulting from a medical procedure pertaining to an unidentified but aggressive ailment. Amir Rahim played basketball for Billy Kennedy at Southeastern Louisiana before beginning his coaching career.

Following five seasons with the Racers, Amir Abdur-Rahim briefly served as the director of player development at Georgia Tech before taking positions as an assistant coach at Georgia, Texas A&M, where he was once more a member of Kennedy’s staff, and the College of Charleston.

When Abdur-Rahim was hired by Kennesaw State in 2019 for his first head coaching position, he took charge of a men’s program that had not won since moving up to Division I 14 years prior. Before recording 13 victories in his third season, the Owls only won one game in his first and five in the following seasons. Abdur-Rahim made history the next season with a KSU team that won the Atlantic Sun regular season and finished 26-9.
Since joining the AAC in 2013, South Florida had never finished with a.500 conference record prior to Abdur-Rahim’s arrival. The Bulls’ 25 victories overall set a program record, and he quickly achieved a 16-2 record versus conference opponents. Additionally, USF was listed in the Associated Press top 25 for the first time. Similar to how he was recognized in the Atlantic Sun the previous year, Abdur-Rahim was chosen as the AAC’s coach of the year for his outstanding work.
AHe went 19-65 in his first three seasons at Kennesaw State and his 2022-23 team at Kennesaw State went 26-9 and made the NCAA Tournament, earning him the shot to coach at USF.
He led the Bulls to the American Athletic Conference’s regular-season championship a year ago.
He contract at USF was set to see him receive $1.8 million in total pay next season, excluding bonuses. His additional compensation was to increase by $50,000 each year, with his salary topping out at $2.05 million during the 2029-2030 season and he received a salary of $1.1 million last season, excluding bonuses. USF coach Amir Abdur-Rahim’s deal was worth $11.55 million over 6 years with him signed till the 2030 season.
