The Continental Clasico
The Continental Clasico was is a new annual event that U.S. Soccer announced early in March of 2023. The event will feature the USMNT playing against a team determined from North, Central, or South America.
The first opponent to start of the competition in 2023 has been determined as Mexico. Since the United States received an automatic qualification for the 2026 World Cup as joint hosts, they will not participate in the CONCACAF qualification.
As such, the upcoming event will serve as a way of securing a match against top-level competition during a four-year World Cup cycle.
