This yearโ€™s U.S. Open 2024 is currently taking place at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Baldor Specialty Foods reportedly purchases around 150K whole melons from Turlock Fruit Company in California to make the drinks.

Honey Deuce cocktail origins

New York restaurateur Nick Mautone first made the popular cocktail drink in 2006 for vodka brand Grey Goose. Grey Goose was one of the tournament sponsors during that year. The drink features 1.25 ounces of Grey Goose Vodka, three ounces of fresh lemonade, and half an ounce of premium raspberry liqueur. It also comes with three honeydew balls, meant to represent tennis balls.

Nick Mautone shared how he first came up with the idea behind the Honey Deuce cocktail after he realized that the honeydew melon balls looked like tennis balls. At that moment, he suddenly got the inspiration for a new cocktail. Mautone reportedly tried out several versions of Honey Deuce before launching it for large-scale production.

This year, the popular drink is priced at $23 for US Open 2024, a slight hike from last yearโ€™s $22.

The popular drink has witnessed highly successful sales at the US Open over the past few years with $2.2 million in total sales. Just last season, Baldor Specialty Foods reported that about 450,000 Honey Deuces were sold for a sum total of $9.9 million.

Fans from New York or Chicago looking to recreate the famous drink at home can simply purchase the ready-to-drink 8-ounce canned version of the cocktail online through September 8, 2024 from DoorDash and Cocktail Courier. The drinks come in a kit form, which includes Grey Goose reusable metal straws, as well as an insulated royal blue branded cooler tote. Fans can choose from a two-pack, four-pack or 8-pack option worth $30, $60, and $120 respectively.

  • 3 parts Fresh Lemonade
  • 1 1/2 parts Grey Goose vodka
  • 3 honey melon balls for garnish
  • 1/2 part of Chambord black raspberry liqueur

  • Start by chilling a collins glass or the commemorative cup in the refrigerator or freezer or simply fill with ice water for around 5 minutes
  • Fill the glass with ice once it gets chilled
  • Measure the right amount of vodka and add
  • Top off the drink with a measured amount of fresh lemonade
  • Measure and add the right amount of raspberry liqueur
  • Garnish the drink with a skewer of 1 or multiple frozen honeydew melon balls
